Water Damage Clean up

Water damage cleanup is an involved process, even for the smallest of spills.  Remember the last time you overturned a full glass on the carpet?  Remember how long it took to make sure you got it all up and there was no remaining stain or smell?  Now imagine a home with a burst pipe in the kitchen or overflowing toilet system.  Can you feel the headache coming on?

The clean up after water damage is a very thorough process, to be sure.  The excess water must first be extracted; this is usually done with a wet-dry vacuum unit or, in larger cases, gas powered submersible pumps.  Once the excess is out, you will find that the carpet or flooring is still wet to the touch, the result of residual moisture leftover.  This is dried out by using high velocity fans, blowers, dehumidifiers, anything that can circulate the air and facilitate total drying.

Carpets will need to be taken up and checked underneath for any accumulation of water.  Damp padding will need to be thrown out, and floors will need to be dried out and cleaned.  The key word in all of this is “dry”.  Make sure every surface is completely dry before pronouncing the repair work complete.water-damage-cleanup1.jpg

Smaller water repair jobs may be undertaken by individuals, however, larger spills are best left to the professionals.   Failure to properly remediate the problem could result in additional problems such as mold.  Contact your local IICRC certified water damage clean up professional today.
