If the ceiling has been damaged, say through a burst pipe upstairs, you’ll need to fix the water leak, and then remove any ceiling water stains.  After all treatment, you can paint the ceiling again.  But remember, fix the problem first, don’t just cover it up.

It is very important to make sure that all surfaces are totally dry before any further repair work is done.  Leaving water untreated can provide for the onset of mold, which can spread quickly and prove extraordinarily difficult to remediate.
