MoldWhat is Mold? Molds are fungi that grow in multicellular filaments, called hyphae. They contain genetically identical nuclei and are considered a single organism. These clusters are referred to as a colony a mycelium. Most molds are harmless and some are actually good for your health and wellbeing. Are all mold harmful? No, some are even edible and most are harmless. There are several types of mold that can be very dangerous
to humans. Black mold starts to grow in structures after floods and water
damage. All black mold needs to grow is excessive moisture and a surface to
attach itself too. Mold likes to grow inside of cabinets, under floor boards,
basements, crawl spaces, drywall, ceiling tiles and behind wall paper. Can I just spray it with Bleach? Yes, mold can be killed by spraying it with bleach. However
this is not a recommended cure for the problem. Dead mold is actually more
dangerous than live mold. The way mold harms people is by becoming air born.
Microscopic toxic mold spores are breathed into the lungs where they can cause a
mold allergy and several other more serious health problems. What should I do? If your home has recently been damaged by water or flood and you suspect you may have a mold problem. If you find some mold by all means do not touch it. Touching it or disturbing it in any way can release the harmful spores into the air. I strongly advise that you hire a local mold remediation expert. Once mold has taken hold it can easily spread to air ducts and attics. Killing it does remove the threat. A mold expert knows how to clean up mold on every surface and can test the air to be sure you and your family are safe.
