Avon IN Dry Carpet

In cases of carpet water damage, I am of the opinion that it’s best to call in an airstrike and start all over again.  Replacing thewater (1).jpg carpet is the simpler and less expensive option, but for those who have some sort of attraction to their carpet and wish to preserve it, there is good news.  Your carpet can be saved if A) it has not been wet for longer than 48 hours, and B) the water damage is not sewage based.  If you said no to either of these, throw the carpet out and take my earlier advice.

As with most water damage, the best thing to do is to get the water out of the carpet.  You’ll need a wet-dry or shop-vac to get out the excess.  Remove as much water as you can this way, as it will make the carpet easier to lift.  The carpet should then be taken up at the tacks and taken outside to finish drying.  A driveway or patio is perfect for this.  Be sure to lay the carpet flat to dry, lest it not fit correctly when reinstalled.  The carpet will need to be dried, cleaned, disinfected, and dried again.waterremovaltool.jpg

While the carpet is being treated, work on the floor.  Check for any signs of warping or cracking.  It will need to be dried and cleaned as well.  Make sure all surfaces are dry before re-laying carpet.  Failure to do so will produce mold, which brings a whole new host of problems to the table.
