Home / Education / Water Damage Guide / The Importance of Immediate Water Remediation
Water remediation is the process of removing, reducing and/or neutralizing contaminants (pathogens, bacteria etc.) in water which may threaten human health and/or the ecosystem's productivity and integrity. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), water is essential for life and plays a vital role in the proper function of the Earth's ecosystems." However, if this water has not been through the remediation process, it could be deadly! What happens if this deadly water comes into your home unexpectedly?
If your home has been invaded by water, it is imperative that you tend to it immediately. Especially, if this water has not gone through the remediation process! If water is left untreated for any amount of time, it can cause a considerable amount of damage to your property and to you and your family's health and happiness. A perfect example of dangerous contaminants are mold and mildew, which will start growing on any surface within a couple hours of the time of invasion!
While there is currently no United States Government regulations to follow when a problem of this nature occurs, there is a nationally known organization which lists standards of care that are set forth with a specific set of practical guidelines to follow. It was designed to help the "average Joe" to assess and clean up his home. However, they recommend allowing a professional to come help, as well.
Mold and mildew bacterias are only two of many contaminants found in water. Think about it: Water has the ability to go everywhere inside your house. For instance, in between the walls, under the floor's foundation, inside the electrical outlets, and more; the list is endless!
Each situation is different, but the urgency to start the dry-out and restoration process is the same; it must be done immediately to prevent the multiplication of many damaging, deadly organisms and contaminants that could not only damage your property, but eventually cause illnesses or even death!
