Water Damage Restoration
WATER DAMAGE REPAIR
Water damage can occur suddenly, through a flash flood, sewer back up, or broken pipes, or it can occur gradually, through leaky windows or seepage through cracks in the foundation. Either way, water damage can be just as horrendous to deal with as fire, and repair can sometimes be actually more difficult due to the number of issues that must be resolved.
Water damage can not only result in the destruction of carpeting and hardwood floors, but long lasting problems such as mold and structure degradation. A successful repair involves taking the right steps in the right order.
First, all items and property should be removed from the water damaged area. These can be repaired or restored elsewhere.
Second, all water and moisture, or at least as much as possible, should be extracted from the damaged site. Regular home vacuums may be used, but commercial vacuums are easily rented and may be much more effective. Once the vacuuming is complete, high powered fans may be brought in to expedite the water drying process.
Once dry, carpets will need to be professionally cleaned to finalize the water damage repair. Hardwood floors will need to be similarly treated, cleaned and waxed.
Ceiling water damage is quite common, and is evident by a large discoloration on the ceiling. It is usually caused by water leakage from upstairs bathrooms or rain coming in from leaks in the roof. Again, structure damage, most notably drywall, will need to be addressed, as well as mold removal and repainting.
