Flood damage seems to be a problem that is growing instead of shrinking in recent years. You would think with modern technology in dams and reservoirs that flood damage would be a thing of the past. In reality the chance of your home being damaged by flood is increasing every year. As the population grows so does the chance that your home will be damaged. Here are a few of the reasons why.

Aging Infrastructure; Flood damage can certainly be caused by weather but also by water mains and sewage pipes. In just about every city in America the sewer and water pipes have reached their expiration date. Often cities do not have it within their budget to replace an outdated water system and have no choice but to just keep doing repairs. This scenario will certainly lead to more flood damage every year.

Rain; has always been a source of flood damage but why is it doing more damage than ever? Every time we build a new shopping center we remove an area where water can soak harmlessly into the ground. Water can't soak through concrete and pavement therefore it only has one choice, to flow. Since many of the storm drains where designed and installed decades before they often can not keep up when a large rain storm comes through.

Earthquakes, tsunami and hurricanes; the jury is still out on why we seem to be having more and more of these every year. Maybe it's global warming or el nino your guess is as good as mine. Just the fact that the population grows every year puts more homes and properties in harms way.

The best advice I can give you if your home has been damaged by water or flood damage is to act quickly. The longer the water and moisture is in your home the better your chance of developing a mold problem. Toxic mold can cost many times as much to remove than just moisture and is often not covered by insurance.
