Dry Carpet Repair
When your carpet has been saturated with water, as the
result of flooding or other spills, time is of the essence. Mold and mildew can begin growing in as
little as 48 hours, but the good news is that if the carpet is treated
immediately, chances are it can be saved.
You’ll first need to dry the carpet with a wet-dry vacuum
unit, getting as much water out as possible to make the carpet easy to lift.
If you have to dry the whole carpet, take the carpet up from
its tacks. Place it outside on a patio
or driveway and allow to dry out thoroughly.
The flooring the carpet was on will need to be dried out and cleaned as
well.
Check the carpet padding.
If it is wet or damaged, save yourself the frustration of trying to
clean it and just throw it out. Replacing
it will be much easier than any possible cleaning.
Check for any signs of mold or mildew. This needs to be eradicated as soon as
possible, lest it spread and cause various and sundry issues, from annoying
smells to health hazards as severe as lung disease.
Ideally, the carpet should be professionally cleaned,
disinfected, and sanitized. This will
cut down on any possible odors.
Wait until all surfaces are completely dry before laying the
carpet back down.
With a little patience, even the most severe spills can be
remediated, and your carpet restored to like new condition. For assistance with larger problems, you can
contact your local water damage restoration company. They are on call 24/7 and able to serve all
your emergency water damage needs.
